Imagine if we lived in the past back in
the 18th century. Travelling on horses, using pigeon post to deliver
messages thousand miles away from its original place, talking to the person
directly would be a common sight everyday. In this era, it is not necessary for
us to do such things anymore. With the invention of modern digital media, we
live in a fortunate way to communicate.
Modern digital media is a way to
communicate with other people using a certain technology such as Internet,
multimedia, digital video, digital sound, computer graphics and even blogs.
This is my first blog, the reason I’m
writing this is to share my personal experience about how modern digital media
has helped me a lot. I was travelling to one of the islands near to Celebes or
refer to Sulawesi for Indonesians with my family. I wasn’t prepared for urgent
needs to happen while I was in vacation, nobody would, I guess. I only brought
my cellular phone. I was enjoying peaceful and relaxing holiday on the island
when one of my friends texted me about the due date of my school project. I
didn’t realize the due date of my project was 1 day after my arrival to my
hometown. I started to get panic; none of my family had brought any digital
media to the island.
Most of people will say, leave all your
gadgets at home while travelling. However, at one point this statement is not
valid for me. Going without gadgets gives trouble for me. I spotted an Internet
café in a small town near my cottage and it was a huge relief. That digital
media had saved my life. It actually not threatens my life, but it will effect
my future because I have to submit my assignments as soon as possible, I don’t
know what is going to happen that day if I don’t submit my work. I can’t even
imagine, that assignment is really really important for me. If on that day I
didn’t submit the assignment, maybe it can ruin my grade in the school, which I
don’t want that to happen to me.
Back to the information of
modern digital media, everything in this world has positive impacts, which is
the advantages and also negative impacts, which is the disadvantages. First
thing first, I will start with the advantages of modern digital media. First, of
course its speed and convenience. Modern media nowadays saves so much time
compared to the older, which is the analogue one. There will be rarely any
pauses on digital media and work can be done in a huge amount in shorter period
of time. As time goes by, modern media gets quicker and have more efficient in
the working process. This
translates to increased productivity which refer to higher profit in a business
which using modern media. Last but not least, the advantage is its
quality video and audio, which can be seen on computers, televisions and many
more taken with digital cameras.
The
disadvantages of modern media are that modern media have also changed what
privacy means. People frequently put their personal information about
themselves on their Facebook and even talk about their life to strangers they
have never met. Years ago media has been critics that parents could keep their
children from inappropriate material, today it is much harder because as kids
go online, play video games and many else that are connected with the Internet
connection.
Therefore, it has many advantages and
disadvantages although many people refute against digital media especially old
people. I personally say modern media can help people to:

information easily
·
Have
communities with people outside my neighborhood
·
Do
the school assignments
·
Download
music or videos
·
Explore
my interest in sports, music, etc.
In conclusion, modern media can be
beneficial for us and also harm for us. Depends on us again, which is more
beneficial for us to use modern media or not using modern media.
